The HR Officer 1 role is central to supporting employee lifecycle management, compliance, HR administration, and training coordination within the division. This position requires precision, professionalism, and a strong ability to manage multiple HR functions simultaneously.
🎯 Role Overview
The HR Officer will play a key role in managing HR operations for the Special Steels Dunswart site. This includes record-keeping, onboarding, recruitment support, payroll administration, disciplinary processes, and training coordination.
You will act as a direct support partner to employees and line management, offering guidance, ensuring accurate reporting, and maintaining compliance with Macsteel’s HR policies and statutory requirements. This role is suited to a self-driven, organised individual with strong interpersonal and communication skills.
🛠️ Key Responsibilities
📁 HR Administration & Compliance

Maintain accurate and up-to-date HR data, employee files, and HC records.

Ensure compliance with HR policies, procedures, labour legislation, and reporting requirements.

Capture and update information for HR reports and dashboards.
💸 Payroll & Reporting

Manage payroll reconciliations, administrative inputs, and monthly HR reporting.

Support payroll accuracy by ensuring documentation is complete and submitted timeously.
👥 Onboarding, Offboarding & Employee Support

Manage and execute the full onboarding and offboarding processes.

Conduct HR inductions for new and transferred employees.

Provide guidance and support to employees regarding HR policies and processes.
🧑⚖️ Employee Relations

Represent HR during disciplinary enquiries.

Prepare documentation packs and ensure proper process alignment.
🔎 Recruitment Coordination

Support the end-to-end recruitment lifecycle from job posting to placement.

Manage administrative tasks, candidate documentation, and communication.
🎓 Learning & Development

Coordinate branch-level training initiatives and ensure proper record management.

Collaborate with teams to support skills development and compliance training.
📨 HR Communication

Ensure accurate, timely distribution of Human Capital communication across the division.
📘 Minimum Requirements

NQF 6 – Advanced Diploma / Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resource Management (Essential)

2–5 years operational HR Officer experience with proven track record (Essential)

Exposure to disciplinary procedures and HR governance standards
