Job Overview
The Fire Fighter in Training Maintenance role is responsible for protecting Sasol’s operational assets and personnel by supporting emergency response and firefighting operations. The role focuses on preparedness, emergency response readiness, and maintenance of firefighting and life-support equipment across facilities.
Successful candidates will undergo training and development as part of Sasol’s Emergency Management career path, with opportunities to progress from Fire Fighter in Training up to Leading Fire Fighter depending on experience, qualifications, and operational requirements.
Key Responsibilities

Apply SHE (Safety, Health and Environmental) best practices during all emergency management activities

Perform duties and operational tasks according to assigned instructions
-
Participate in regular training to maintain mental and physical readiness for emergency incidents
-
Engage in Key Performance Area (KPA) and Personal Development Plan (PDP) discussions
-
Ensure individual performance targets and development actions are achieved
-
Work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders
-
Respond effectively to emergency situations involving fire, hazardous materials, or safety incidents
-
Conduct reconditioning and maintenance of firefighting and life-support equipment
-
Service portable firefighting equipment located across plants and buildings
-
Identify and recommend improvements to emergency management maintenance activities
-
Suggest improvements that enhance service delivery and operational effectiveness

Contribute ideas and initiatives that improve workplace safety

Participate in housekeeping and operational readiness activities
Qualifications
Education
-
Grade 12 (Matric) with Mathematics or an equivalent qualification
-
Must be medically fit according to Fire Fighter fitness level requirements
Preferred Certifications
-
Fire Fighter 1 & 2 (NFPA 1001)
-
HPCSA Registered BAA (BLS) or First Aid Level 3
-
HPCSA Registered Intermediate Life Support (ILS)
-
Hazmat Awareness and Operations (NFPA 1072/472)
Experience
-
0 – 5 years relevant experience in firefighting, safety, emergency response, or related environments

Candidates will be placed in the appropriate rank depending on experience, certifications, and Sasol emergency management career path requirements
