Job Overview
The Site Electrical Engineer will support the Engineering Manager by providing on-site technical assistance during construction, installation, testing, and commissioning of electrical systems.
This role focuses on field engineering support, contractor coordination, technical troubleshooting, and compliance monitoring to ensure electrical project components are delivered safely, on schedule, and according to project specifications.
The successful candidate will work closely with multidisciplinary teams to resolve technical issues and ensure that electrical installations meet quality, safety, and engineering standards.
Key Responsibilities
Site Execution & Technical Support

Provide daily technical support to construction teams and contractors.

Review and interpret electrical drawings, layouts, and specifications.

Conduct field inspections to ensure installations meet design and quality standards.

Respond to site queries (RFIs) and coordinate with the design office.

Support testing, pre-commissioning, and commissioning activities.

Assist with troubleshooting electrical issues during installation.
Planning, Documentation & Controls

Maintain and update site electrical documentation as construction progresses.

Monitor contractor performance and ensure schedule adherence.

Assist in the development of construction and commissioning plans.
-
Ensure correct implementation of engineering deliverables such as drawings and specifications.

Support Engineering Work Packages (EWPs) for field execution.
Coordination & Communication

Participate in site coordination and progress meetings.

Liaise with engineering disciplines, procurement teams, and commissioning personnel.

Facilitate communication between site teams and design offices.
-
Assist in design reviews and constructability assessments.
Quality, Safety & Compliance
-
Ensure electrical installations comply with OHSA regulations and project safety rules.
-
Participate in risk assessments, toolbox talks, and safety meetings.
-
Ensure correct application of lock-out/tag-out and electrical safety procedures.

Conduct quality inspections and audits in line with the project’s Quality Assurance Plan.

Promote professional and ethical engineering practices on site.
Qualifications
Education
-
BSc or BEng in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent qualification).
Experience
-
5–10 years’ experience in electrical engineering on construction or site-based projects.

Experience in large multidisciplinary projects within mining, infrastructure, or industrial sectors.

Strong knowledge of installation, construction, and commissioning processes.
Skills

Ability to interpret electrical drawings, specifications, and technical standards.

Knowledge of electrical equipment used in large engineering projects.

Strong technical troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.

Excellent communication and coordination skills.

Understanding of procurement, contracting, and construction workflows.

Knowledge of HSEC standards and site safety requirements.
