Job Overview
The Technical Assistant will support the hospital’s technical department by performing building maintenance tasks, assisting with equipment repairs, and ensuring that hospital facilities and assets are maintained to high operational standards. The role also involves monitoring contractor work, managing maintenance requests, and supporting administrative duties within the department.
This position is ideal for candidates with basic building maintenance experience who want to contribute to maintaining a safe and efficient hospital environment.
Key Responsibilities

Perform maintenance tasks on hospital buildings and facilities as requested.

Assist with the repair and upkeep of general equipment.

Identify potential risks in the technical environment and take corrective action where required.

Coordinate and monitor the work of contractors operating within the hospital.

Maintain accurate records and perform administrative duties in the technical department.

Build and maintain professional relationships with hospital stakeholders and service providers.

Ensure compliance with safety standards and maintenance procedures.
Qualifications
Education
Essential:
-
Grade 10 or an equivalent technical vocational qualification.
Preferred:
-
Grade 12 / Matric.
Experience
-
Minimum 2–3 years of experience in general building maintenance.

Experience in facility maintenance within hospitals or large buildings is advantageous.
Skills
-
Knowledge of building maintenance and facility repairs.

Understanding of Occupational Health, Safety, and Environmental standards (OHS).

Computer literacy, including Microsoft Office applications.

Basic troubleshooting and repair skills for equipment and building infrastructure.

Strong communication and organisational skills.

Ability to work in a team and maintain professional relationships.
