Job Overview
The People & Development Manager will play a critical role in managing talent across LOD’s South African operations. This includes overseeing onboarding, employee lifecycle management, talent development, and retention strategies.
As the first South Africa-based member of the People & Development team, you will act as a key partner to both local and global stakeholders, ensuring a high-quality experience for lawyers and clients while building a strong local talent community.
Key Responsibilities

Manage the full assignment lifecycle (onboarding, engagement, offboarding).

Oversee onboarding processes, including documentation and coordination with client teams.

Provide line management and ongoing support to lawyers and paralegals.

Handle HR matters such as salary negotiations, contract extensions, and employee queries.

Drive employee wellbeing, engagement, and retention initiatives.

Troubleshoot operational and HR challenges using creative problem-solving.

Collaborate with global teams, especially UK-based stakeholders.

Communicate key commercial and HR issues to senior stakeholders.

Support and implement learning & development strategies.

Deliver training sessions and organise professional development events.

Contribute to HR projects, systems, and process improvements.
Qualifications
Education

Relevant qualification in Human Resources, Business, or related field (preferred but not strictly specified).
Experience

Proven experience in HR management, talent development, or employee relations.

Experience handling complex HR issues and employee lifecycle management.

Exposure to professional services or legal sector (advantageous).

Experience working in fast-paced, global or remote teams.
