Job Overview
The Clerk Wages role is responsible for ensuring accurate, compliant, and timely payroll administration within the Durban Bakery team.
This position plays a critical role in maintaining payroll integrity, supporting employees with payroll queries, and ensuring compliance with South African labour and tax regulations.
Key Responsibilities
- Process payroll accurately, including earnings, deductions, and timekeeping data
- Ensure compliance with labour laws and tax regulations (UIF, SDL, PAYE)
- Maintain and update payroll records and documentation
- Generate payroll reports for management and stakeholders
- Respond to payroll-related queries and provide employee support
- Reconcile third-party payments with general ledger records
- Identify and implement improvements in payroll systems and processes
- Ensure secure handling of payroll data and compliance with data protection policies
Qualifications
Education
- Matric (Grade 12)
- Diploma or qualification in Payroll Administration, Finance, HR, or related field
- Advantageous: Certified Payroll Professional (SAPA)
Experience
- 3–5 years’ experience in payroll administration
- Experience working with payroll systems
- 1–2 years’ experience with South African payroll legislation
Skills
- Strong knowledge of payroll processes and statutory requirements
- Proficiency in payroll software (e.g., Sage, PaySpace)
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
- Strong numerical and analytical ability
- Attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to work under pressure in a deadline-driven environment
- Good communication and teamwork skills
