Job Overview

An exciting opportunity is available for an experienced Assistant Head Chef to join a prestigious 5-star lodge in Mpumalanga. The successful candidate will support the Head Chef in managing kitchen operations, maintaining high culinary standards, and delivering exceptional dining experiences. This role is ideal for a passionate chef with leadership skills and a flair for fine dining.


Key Responsibilities

  • Assist the Head Chef in the overall management of the kitchen
  • Take full responsibility for kitchen operations in the absence of the Head Chef
  • Prepare and present high-quality 5-star meals for guests
  • Develop and innovate menu ideas for both guests and staff
  • Manage food orders, procurement, and stock control
  • Train and mentor junior kitchen staff, including sous chefs
  • Ensure high standards of food quality, presentation, and hygiene
  • Maintain strong communication with suppliers and team members
  • Oversee stock rotation, quality control, and kitchen administration
  • Ensure consistent delivery of exceptional dining experiences

Qualifications

Education

  • Culinary qualification or relevant chef certification (preferred)

Experience

  • Proven experience in a senior chef role within a 4 or 5-star establishment
  • Experience in lodge or hospitality environments is highly advantageous

Skills

  • Strong leadership and team management skills
  • Advanced culinary and plating skills
  • Menu planning and creativity
  • Stock control and procurement expertise
  • Knowledge of kitchen administration systems
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to work under pressure and maintain high standards
