Job Overview

WSP Group Africa is seeking an experienced Mine Closure Costing Specialist to join its Mine Closure and Costing Team in Midrand.

This senior-level role involves leading and delivering mine closure planning and costing projects, managing multidisciplinary teams, and providing strategic advisory on closure liabilities, risk, and uncertainty. The successful candidate will play a key role in shaping closure strategies and mentoring junior team members.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage multidisciplinary mine closure project teams
  • Develop practical and cost-effective closure planning solutions
  • Conduct site visits and analyse field data for closure scenarios
  • Prepare closure liability estimates and costing models
  • Create maps and technical outputs using AutoCAD, QGIS, and GIS tools
  • Provide advisory services on risk, uncertainty, and liability drivers
  • Compile and review closure reports and costing documentation
  • Ensure projects are delivered on time, within scope and budget
  • Engage with clients, auditors, and stakeholders
  • Mentor and develop junior staff
  • Support strategic growth of closure and rehabilitation services

Qualifications

Education

  • Postgraduate qualification (Honours or higher) in:
    • Environmental Management / Soil Science
    • Mining, Civil or Environmental Engineering
    • Geological Sciences or related field
    • Quantity Surveying (or equivalent discipline)

Experience

  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in mine closure costing or related consulting/industry roles
  • Strong experience in mining and industrial sectors across Africa

Skills

  • Advanced numerical and cost modelling skills (MS Excel)
  • Strong understanding of closure liability estimation and risk analysis
  • Knowledge of local and international closure legislation
  • Technical report writing and communication skills
  • Project management and leadership capability
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, QGIS, Google Earth Pro, and MS Office
  • Ability to mentor and manage teams
  • Strong stakeholder and client engagement skills

  • Valid passport
  • Willingness to travel across Africa
