Job Overview
The University of the Western Cape is seeking an experienced Academic Pharmacist for the position of Senior Lecturer / Lecturer: Pharmacy Practice.
This role focuses on teaching, research, postgraduate supervision, curriculum development, and community engagement within the School of Pharmacy.
The successful candidate will contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching while supporting research initiatives and strengthening pharmacy practice education in South Africa.
Key Responsibilities
- Facilitate undergraduate and postgraduate teaching
- Deliver Pharmacy Practice modules
- Conduct academic research
- Supervise postgraduate students
- Support curriculum development
- Manage assessments and academic administration
- Participate in community engagement and outreach
- Contribute to scholarly publications
- Support multidisciplinary academic collaboration
- Assist with programme development and quality assurance
Qualifications
Education
For Senior Lecturer
- BPharm and PhD in Pharmacy Practice or closely related field
OR
- MPharm / MSc in Pharmacy Practice with extensive (5+ years) practice experience
For Lecturer
- BPharm and MSc / MPharm in Pharmacy Practice or closely related field
Professional Registration
- Registration with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC) as a Pharmacist
Experience
Senior Lecturer
- Proven teaching experience at undergraduate and postgraduate level
- Strong research publication record
- Successful postgraduate supervision experience
- South African pharmacy practice experience
Lecturer
- Teaching experience in Pharmacy Practice
OR
- Relevant practice experience in South African healthcare settings
- Research involvement or participation in ongoing research
Preferred Experience
- Research funding and grant acquisition
- National academic collaborations in pharmacy
- Experience in:
- forensic pharmacy
- pharmacoeconomics
