Job Overview
The HR Payroll Internship offers an exciting opportunity for graduates to gain hands-on experience in payroll operations within a leading e-commerce environment.
As a Payroll Intern, you will support the payroll team in ensuring accurate and timely payroll processing across the Takealot Group. You will gain exposure to payroll systems, compliance requirements, and HR processes while developing both technical and administrative skills.
This internship is ideal for individuals who are detail-oriented, analytical, and eager to build a career in HR, payroll, or finance.
Key Responsibilities
Payroll Administration Support
- Assist with payroll data capturing and updates
- Support monthly payroll processing activities
- Assist with employee onboarding and payroll setup
- Process employee terminations and final payments
- Maintain payroll records and documentation
- Respond to payroll-related queries
Data Management & Reporting
- Capture and validate payroll data
- Assist with payroll reconciliations
- Support payroll reporting and data analysis
- Ensure accuracy of employee information
Compliance & Controls
- Support compliance with payroll policies and procedures
- Assist with statutory requirements (PAYE, UIF, SDL)
- Maintain confidentiality of payroll information
- Support audit processes and documentation
Payroll Operations Support
- Assist with overtime, leave, and allowance processing
- Support benefits and deductions processing
- Assist with payroll system updates
- Support month-end payroll activities
General Administrative Support
- Provide administrative support to the payroll team
- Maintain filing systems (digital and physical)
- Assist with ad hoc payroll projects
- Support process improvement initiatives
Qualifications
Education
- Matric / Grade 12 Certificate
- Completed N6 in:
- Human Resources
- Finance
Experience
- No formal experience required (internship level)
- Exposure to payroll systems is advantageous
Skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
- Strong data capturing and administrative skills
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail
- Basic understanding of payroll principles (advantageous)
- Strong numerical and analytical skills
- Good organisational and time management skills
- Ability to handle confidential information
