Job Overview
SLR is seeking an experienced Senior Engineering CAD Technician to strengthen its CAD team based in Fourways, Johannesburg. This senior-level position is best suited for a highly skilled engineering draughtsperson with deep expertise in mining-related civil infrastructure.
The successful candidate will lead the 3D modelling and technical drawing production of mine waste facilities, including tailings storage facilities, mine dumps, and associated infrastructure. You will also support drawing office management, mentor junior team members, and work closely with engineers and project managers to ensure high-quality project delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop advanced 3D models for mine waste facilities and related infrastructure
- Produce engineering drawings from concept design through to construction and as-built stages
- Prepare detailed engineering drafting and technical detailing
- Manage drawing office workflows and standards
- Train, mentor, and support junior CAD technicians
- Assist design engineers and project managers with project execution
- Ensure drawing accuracy, compliance, and quality assurance
- Support project delivery deadlines and documentation control
- Take on additional management-assigned responsibilities when required
Qualifications
Education
- Formal technical qualification in Civil Engineering is advantageous.
- Professional Technician registration (PrTech) will be highly advantageous.
Experience
- Minimum 10 years of senior-level CAD design and draughting experience within mining infrastructure.
Required experience includes:

- digital terrain modelling
Previous drawing office leadership and mentorship experience is essential.
