Job Overview

Fedics is looking for a Hostess to work in a busy hospital ward environment in Milnerton. The successful candidate will be responsible for serving meals, refreshments and snacks to patients while ensuring excellent hygiene and service standards.

This role requires someone who is friendly, organised and able to work in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision.

Key Responsibilities

• Ensure patients always have access to ice water.
• Keep urns filled and switched on throughout the day.
• Serve tea, coffee, snacks and meals to patients.
• Complete menu cards correctly according to each patient’s choice.
• Return menu cards to the kitchen promptly.
• Update diet lists before every meal.
• Report any diet changes immediately.
• Transport food trolleys between the kitchen and patient wards.
• Check that trays are complete before serving meals.
• Remove meal trays promptly after patients have finished eating.
• Wash and control cutlery after every meal.
• Ensure cutlery is stored safely and served correctly.
• Keep the ward kitchen clean, tidy and organised at all times.
• Provide additional services to private patients where required.
• Maintain a neat and professional appearance in full uniform.

Qualifications

Education

• Matric / Grade 12.

Experience

• Previous experience in a hospital, catering or hospitality environment will be advantageous.
• Experience serving patients or customers will be beneficial.

Skills

• Good communication skills.
• Ability to work in a busy and pressurised environment.
• Knowledge of hygiene and quality standards.
• Professional appearance and attitude.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Flexible and willing to work weekends and public holidays.
• Good organisational skills and attention to detail.
