Job Overview
Cape Grace Fairmont Hotel is seeking a Houseman to join the Housekeeping team in Cape Town. The role focuses on maintaining cleanliness, supporting housekeeping operations and ensuring exceptional guest service standards.
The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting room preparation, linen management, corridor cleaning and responding to guest requests efficiently and professionally.
This role is ideal for a hardworking, energetic individual who thrives in a fast-paced luxury hospitality environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain the highest standards of guest service according to Fairmont operating procedures.
- Remove soiled linen from pantries and return it to the linen room.
- Stock pantries with clean linen according to par stock levels.
- Assist the linen room and housekeeping team with daily tasks.
- Report lost and found items immediately to supervisors.
- Report faulty or malfunctioning equipment to management.
- Sign in and return keys, pagers and work documentation at the end of each shift.
- Clean, store and maintain housekeeping equipment properly.
- Vacuum and dust corridors, staircases and assigned areas.
- Deliver guest supplies and replenish service areas as required.
- Respond to guest requests through housekeeping supervisors.
- Assist with furniture movement when required.
- Refill cleaning chemicals and supplies daily.
- Clean walls, lights, ceilings and glass surfaces as required.
- Perform deep cleaning tasks such as carpet spot cleaning and descaling.
- Maintain cleanliness of housekeeping offices, pantries and storerooms.
- Report any health and safety hazards immediately.
- Assist in training new housekeeping staff when required.
- Attend training sessions and comply with all reasonable instructions from management.
Qualifications
Education
- Grade 12 / Matric preferred.
- Basic literacy in English is essential.
Experience
- Previous experience in housekeeping or hospitality is advantageous.
- Experience in a 5-star hotel environment is preferred but not required.
- Customer service experience will be an advantage.
Skills
- Good verbal communication in English.
- Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong attention to detail and cleanliness standards.
- Teamwork and reliability.
- Physical stamina for housekeeping duties.
- Positive attitude and willingness to learn.
