Job Overview
Absa is seeking an experienced accounting professional to join its Sandton team as a Specialist Accounting. The role focuses on supporting the financial activities of a stockbroking business, ensuring accurate financial reporting, compliance with regulatory requirements, and efficient day-to-day operational finance processes.
The successful candidate will prepare financial information for business stakeholders, support regulatory reporting, and assist with decision-making through financial analysis and reporting.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and submit regulatory financial reports accurately and on time.
- Ensure compliance with capital adequacy and client money segregation requirements.
- Monitor and record all financial transactions accurately.
- Prepare financial statements and reports in line with company and regulatory standards.
- Manage general ledger, month-end close processes, and reconciliations.
- Reconcile trade settlements and brokerage commission accounts.
- Support external auditors, compliance teams, and tax authorities.
- Work with other departments to improve financial processes and efficiency.
- Manage invoicing, payments, and operational finance tasks.
- Provide financial analysis and insights to support business planning and decision-making.
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor’s Degree or Advanced Diploma in Financial Sciences or related field.
- NQF Level 8 qualification required.
Experience
- 3 to 5 years of accounting experience.
- Proven experience in financial services, specifically within stockbroking, asset management, or investment banking.
Skills
- Strong understanding of local and international financial regulations, including FSCA requirements.
- Knowledge of client asset protection and capital adequacy regulations.
- Proficiency in ERP systems such as SAP.
- Experience with trade reporting systems such as BDA and Saxo.
- Advanced financial modelling and analysis skills.
- Strong ability to investigate and resolve discrepancies in financial data.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to explain complex financial matters to non-financial stakeholders.
- Strong ethical standards and commitment to regulatory compliance.

- 100% on-time submission of regulatory financial reports.
