Job Overview
CKH is seeking an experienced Financial Accountant (Close & Reporting Lead) to join its Cape Town team. This role is ideal for an accounting professional with strong experience in general ledger accounting, statutory reporting, month-end close processes, and GAAP conversions.
The successful candidate will lead the month-end close process, oversee balance sheet reconciliations, prepare statutory financial statements, and support external audits. You will also play a key role in mentoring junior team members and improving financial reporting processes.
This opportunity offers exposure to international clients, US-listed companies, and US GAAP reporting, with potential travel opportunities to the United States.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the month-end close process by coordinating timelines, reviewing journal entries, and ensuring accuracy and completeness.
- Review, support, and guide junior team members while resolving issues and providing hands-on assistance when needed.
- Prepare and review GAAP reconciliations, including Local GAAP to US GAAP conversions.
- Design and implement reconciliation processes, including templates, standards, timelines, and controls based on client requirements.
- Oversee balance sheet reconciliations and resolve complex reconciling items.
- Prepare statutory financial statements and ensure alignment with group reporting requirements.
- Support external audits by preparing PBC schedules and responding to auditor queries.
- Drive process improvements across close, reconciliation, and reporting activities.
- Ensure all financial records are accurate, complete, and aligned with reporting standards.
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelorโs Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Professional accounting qualification will be advantageous.
Experience
- Minimum 5 yearsโ experience in general ledger accounting, statutory reporting, or auditing.
- Strong experience in:
- Month-end close processes
- Balance sheet reconciliations
- Financial statement preparation
- Proven experience with GAAP conversions, including US GAAP, IFRS, and Local GAAP.
- Experience working with external auditors.
- Experience reviewing work and coaching junior team members.
Preferred Experience
- Previous experience in a Big 4 firm or audit environment.
- Experience in multi-entity or international organisations.
- Exposure to European statutory reporting, such as French GAAP.
- Experience using ERP systems such as SAP, QuickBooks Online (QBO), or similar platforms.
