Job Overview

Hatch is seeking an experienced Site Quality Manager to join its Project Delivery Group on a 12-month fixed-term contract in Johannesburg. The successful candidate will be responsible for planning, implementing, and managing site quality activities to ensure that construction and commissioning work is completed to the highest standards.

You will oversee site quality planning, QA/QC processes, inspections, testing programmes, contractor compliance, and non-conformance management. This role requires a highly experienced quality professional with extensive EPCM project knowledge and a strong understanding of construction quality systems and ISO 9001:2015 requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement the Site Project Quality Plan in consultation with the Project Quality Manager.
  • Lead site quality planning and ensure all construction activities follow quality best practices.
  • Promote quality awareness and drive successful implementation of site quality requirements.
  • Train QA/QC Coordinators and construction personnel on project quality procedures, auditing, and site quality standards.
  • Participate in contractor kick-off meetings and ensure quality readiness before construction begins.
  • Coordinate and monitor inspection and testing programmes in line with engineering and project requirements.
  • Support field inspections, sampling, testing activities, and contractor inspection schedules.
  • Review contractor quality documentation, inspection records, testing packs, and mechanical completion files.
  • Prepare and manage the site quality surveillance programme, including audits, assessments, and quality verifications.
  • Conduct risk-based quality surveillance and identify areas for improvement.
  • Produce monthly site quality reports, dashboards, and project closeout quality reports.
  • Ensure quality staffing and inspection resources are allocated appropriately.
  • Attend and lead quality discussions during project meetings, contractor meetings, and commissioning reviews.
  • Coordinate the resolution of non-conformances, quality incidents, engineering queries, and concession requests.
  • Verify that all measuring and testing equipment is correctly calibrated and traceable.
  • Ensure final “as built” documentation and redline drawings are completed and approved.
  • Monitor change management processes, including design changes and project change notices.
  • Work closely with engineering leads, contractors, and third-party agencies to resolve quality issues.
  • Recommend and track corrective actions to improve quality performance and prevent recurring issues.

Qualifications

Education

  • Diploma or Degree in Engineering, Quality Management, Construction Management, or a related field.
  • Additional quality management or auditing certifications will be advantageous.
  • ISO 9001:2015 training or certification is highly desirable.

Experience

  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in Quality Management on EPCM or large engineering projects.
  • At least 10 years of experience in QA/QC, inspection, and testing of construction facilities.
  • Proven experience conducting field audits and managing site quality programmes.
  • Experience working with contractors, third-party inspection agencies, and multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Strong knowledge of commissioning, operational readiness, pre-fabrication, and modular construction.

Skills

  • Excellent knowledge of ISO 9001:2015 quality management systems.
  • Strong understanding of national and international construction codes, standards, and specifications.
  • Ability to manage quality inspections, testing programmes, and surveillance activities.
  • Excellent communication, reporting, and leadership skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving ability.
  • Skilled in preparing quality reports, dashboards, and closeout documentation.
  • Ability to work effectively with multidisciplinary teams and contractors.
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
