Job Overview

Mediclinic Limpopo is seeking a Senior Professional Nurse to support the Unit Manager in delivering safe, high-quality patient care. The role involves coordinating care delivery, mitigating clinical risks, and ensuring a positive patient experience.

The successful candidate will also provide direct patient care while mentoring junior and student nurses, contributing to staff development and operational efficiency within the unit.


Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver safe, comprehensive patient care aligned with clinical standards
  • Support the Unit Manager in coordinating care delivery and managing risks
  • Ensure a positive patient experience and high service standards
  • Manage staffing resources effectively to optimise performance
  • Mentor and develop nursing staff through ongoing training and assessment
  • Assist in managing operational costs, including stock and resources
  • Ensure compliance with healthcare regulations and quality standards

Qualifications

Education

  • Professional Nurse qualification
  • Postgraduate Diploma in Nursing (required for specialist units)

Experience

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience as a Professional Nurse in a hospital setting
  • At least 1 year of mentorship experience

Skills

  • Strong knowledge of pharmacology and nursing procedures
  • Patient assessment and care planning skills
  • Knowledge of infection prevention and control
  • Understanding of nursing legislation and compliance
  • Record keeping and audit skills
  • Computer literacy (Microsoft Office)
  • Analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Mentorship and leadership skills

Additional Requirements

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Advanced certifications (ACLS, ATLS, PALS) for specialised wards (advantageous)
