Job Overview

The Building and Maintenance Supervisor will play a critical role in ensuring the reliability, compliance, and efficiency of all infrastructure and facility services at the Durban Tea Factory.

Operating within a highly regulated FMCG environment, this role focuses on maintaining engineering standards, ensuring food safety compliance, and managing essential utilities and building systems. You will lead maintenance teams and contractors, ensuring all work is delivered to specification, on time, and within budget.

Key Responsibilities

Infrastructure & Utilities Management

Maintain electrical substations, HVAC systems, compressed air, and water infrastructure
Ensure operational integrity of fire protection systems and sanitation services

Building & Facilities Maintenance

Oversee maintenance of buildings, roads, and structural assets
Ensure compliance with food safety and audit requirements

Equipment & Operations

Manage servicing of material handling equipment (forklifts, hoists, dock levellers)
Ensure functionality of high-speed warehouse systems

Maintenance Planning

Implement and manage preventative and corrective maintenance programs
Maintain accurate maintenance records and job card systems

Contractor & Project Management

Scope, plan, and supervise maintenance and infrastructure projects
Manage contractor performance, safety compliance, and deliverables

Compliance & Standards

Ensure adherence to GMP, FSSC 22000, SANS, and municipal regulations
Maintain compliance documentation and inspection records

Cost & Procurement Control

Monitor maintenance budgets and expenditure
Source quotations and manage supplier relationships
Validate contractor invoices against completed work

Qualifications

Education

N4–N6 in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering
N6 or BTech qualification preferred

Experience

3–5 years’ experience in maintenance planning and infrastructure management
Experience within FMCG or food manufacturing environments preferred
Proven track record in contractor and project management

Skills

Strong technical knowledge of building services and utilities
Excellent planning, scheduling, and organisational skills
Solid understanding of compliance standards (GMP, FSSC 22000)
Budgeting and cost control capabilities
Strong leadership and communication skills
