Job Overview
Stethoscope SA is seeking a Registered Nurse β Theatre to join a specialised surgical healthcare environment in Cape Town. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering safe, evidence-based nursing care within the operating theatre while ensuring compliance with hospital standards and clinical governance requirements.
This role requires strong theatre nursing experience, knowledge of surgical procedures, and the ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary surgical team.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver safe, high-quality, and cost-effective theatre nursing care
- Assess, plan, implement, and supervise patient care in theatre
- Support holistic patient care throughout surgical procedures
- Maintain strict aseptic techniques during surgical preparation and procedures
- Ensure proper handling and management of surgical supplies and equipment
- Promote patient safety and infection prevention protocols
- Communicate effectively with patients, doctors, and multidisciplinary teams
- Monitor patient care plans and report changes in patient condition
- Maintain accurate and compliant nursing documentation
- Ensure stock, consumables, and theatre equipment are managed correctly
- Maintain a safe working environment aligned with occupational safety standards
- Participate in clinical governance and quality improvement initiatives
- Maintain professional development and CPR/BLS competency
- Build positive relationships with healthcare teams and management
Qualifications
Education
- Grade 12 or equivalent NQF Level 4 qualification
- Enrolled Nurse qualification
Registration
- Current registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC)
Experience
- Minimum 5 yearsβ experience as a Registered Nurse
- Scrub nursing experience required
- Floor nursing and anaesthetic experience required
- Experience within theatre or surgical environments essential
Skills
- Strong knowledge of surgical procedures and theatre nursing
- Understanding of aseptic techniques and sterile environments
- Knowledge of infection prevention and control practices
- Ability to anticipate theatre team and surgical procedure needs
- Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills
