Social Development
Job Purpose
The Department of Social Development, Western Cape Government seeks qualified and competent Social Auxiliary Workers to assist Social Workers in promoting social change, solving human relationship problems, and empowering individuals for enhanced social well-being under the guidance and supervision of a Social Worker.
Minimum Requirements
- Grade 1: Grade 10 plus completion of the learnership to allow registration with the South African Council for Social Service Professions (SACSSP) as a Social Auxiliary Worker
- Registration with SACSSP as a Social Auxiliary Worker
- A valid Code B driving license

Key Performance Areas
- Assist and support Social Workers in providing social work services for the care, support, protection, and development of vulnerable individuals, groups, families, and communities through departmental programs
- Help Social Workers address matters resulting from social instability
- Engage in continuous professional development
- Perform administrative support functions to assist Social Workers
Competencies
- Knowledge and basic understanding of:
- Human behavior, relationship systems, and social issues
- South African social welfare context, policy, and practice of developmental social welfare services
- South African judicial system and legislation governing social auxiliary work
- Basic financial matters related to social auxiliary work
- Skills:
- Good communication (written and verbal)
- Proven computer literacy
- Information and knowledge management (keeping precise records and compiling accurate reports)
- Organizing and planning
- Presentation and facilitation
- Report writing
- Problem-solving and analytical
- Client orientation and customer focus
Remuneration
- Grade 1: R 182 913 – R 207 024 per annum
- Grade 2: R 215 442 – R 245 847 per annum
- Grade 3: R 255 933 – R 321 741 per annum
(Note: Cost-to-employer (CTE) remuneration packages for OSD include all costs related to service benefits or obligations, such as basic salary, 13th cheque, medical assistance, housing assistance, pension-fund contributions, etc.)
Notes

- The selection process will be guided by the EE targets of the employing department
