Academic Programme Convener – Faculty of Humanities at Eduvos – Apply Now!

Eduvos, a leading higher education institution, is seeking an experienced Academic Programme Convener for the Faculty of Humanities. This full-time, permanent position is based at our Bloemfontein campus in Free State, South Africa. As the Academic Programme Convener, you will play a crucial role in managing the academic delivery of Humanities qualifications, ensuring that high standards of teaching, student experience, and operational excellence are maintained.

Key Responsibilities:

As an Academic Programme Convener, you will be primarily responsible for overseeing the day-to-day delivery of Humanities qualifications, ensuring that lecturers and students have the support they need to succeed.

1. Academic Leadership and Management:

  • Manage and supervise the delivery of Humanities courses across the Bloemfontein campus.

  • Ensure lecturers maintain high standards of teaching performance and provide regular feedback and guidance.

  • Collaborate with the development hub to ensure alignment of Humanities curriculum and delivery methods.

  • Monitor student progress and act as the first point of contact for student complaints.

  • Handle programme planning, ensuring proper sequencing, prerequisites, and effective academic delivery methods.

2. Operational and Financial Accountability:

  • Oversee the academic operational budget for Humanities programmes.

  • Ensure efficient use of resources, including staff, equipment, and learning materials.

  • Take responsibility for the financial management of the Humanities faculty, including budget input and processing claims.

3. Resourcing and Capacity Management:

  • Lead recruitment efforts, including talent acquisition and onboarding of new faculty members.

  • Ensure that performance management processes are followed, including setting clear objectives, providing feedback, and conducting performance reviews.

4. Reporting and Continuous Improvement:

  • Provide regular updates to the Head of Programmes regarding programme performance, feedback from students and faculty, and any issues that need resolution.

  • Engage in continuous professional development, seeking ways to improve the Humanities curriculum and teaching standards.

Key Competencies and Skills:

To succeed in this role, you must demonstrate a blend of academic expertise, leadership, and operational management skills.

Functional Competencies:

  • Advanced computer literacy, including proficiency in MS Office and learning management systems (LMS).

  • Solid understanding of qualification frameworks, academic governance structures, and academic processes.

  • Strong budgeting and financial management skills.

  • The ability to lead remote teams effectively and oversee operational planning for Humanities qualifications.

Behavioral Competencies:

  • Initiative and responsibility to manage both people and academic processes.

  • Ability to lead and develop teams, providing clarity, feedback, and fostering a positive academic culture.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to network and build relationships within the academic community.

  • Problem-solving skills, with a systematic approach to planning and organizing academic processes.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Master’s degree in a relevant field (preferably within Humanities).

  • At least 5 years’ experience as a lecturer in higher education.

  • Demonstrated management potential or at least 2 years’ experience in educational management.

  • Strong understanding of academic processes and the Humanities field.
