About the Role

As an Accountant at Alexander Forbes, you will play a critical role in financial operations, with a focus on revenue allocation, expense processing, debtors management, reconciliations, and reporting. This position offers the chance to work across multiple business units and contribute to process enhancements, budgeting, and audit preparations.

Key Responsibilities

📊 Revenue & Expense Processing

• Receive, analyze, and allocate various types of commission at the client and individual levels.

• Process monthly retainer client invoices, accruals, and reversal of accruals upon actuals.

• Compare actuals vs accruals monthly and investigate anomalies.

• Maintain revenue and expense allocations in Smartstream, ensuring accuracy in periods and cost centers.

• Assist with general ledger queries and maintain financial controls.

📄 Monthly Reporting

• Prepare and distribute General Ledger, revenue comparison, and dashboard reports for HMS, TACS, and HAS divisions.

• Input key business drivers (e.g., number of members, clients, new/lost business) into EPM systems.

• Support reporting accuracy and business intelligence delivery.

📈 Budgeting & Forecasting

• Develop and maintain revenue budget templates.

• Assist with uploading budget data into Smartstream following budget approval.

💰 Working Capital & Debtors Management

• Manage AF Health debtors, including distribution of statements and payment follow-ups.

• Maintain accrual aging schedules and provide detailed commentary for business units.

• Reverse accruals promptly and support internal debtor controls.

📘 Balance Sheet Recons & Audit

• Prepare and clear balance sheet reconciliations for revenue accounts.

• Liaise with internal and external auditors during audit processes.

• Clear all bank recon items within defined timeframes.

🚀 Projects & Process Improvement

• Enhance the revenue allocation process to reduce errors.

• Find automation opportunities, such as automating commission allocation from underwriter statements.

• Participate in the Khula Nathi finance automation project to meet automation and reporting deadlines.

Minimum Requirements

✅ Education:

• National Senior Certificate (Matric) with Maths & Accounting

• Bachelor’s Degree in Finance (e.g., BCom)

• Finance-related diploma or additional coursework (advantageous)

✅ Skills & Competencies:

• Proficient in financial systems such as Smartstream

• Strong understanding of revenue processing, accruals, and budgeting

• High attention to detail and strong analytical ability

• Comfortable working in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment

• Effective communicator who can collaborate across departments

• A solutions-focused mindset with a passion for continuous improvement
