Job Overview

Ackermans is offering a newly created opportunity for an Accountant: Forex within the Finance Retail Accounting team. The successful candidate will manage and administer the total foreign exchange function, including technical accounting, hedge accounting, compliance, and forecasting.

This role plays a critical part in ensuring forex risk is managed effectively while maintaining accurate reporting and compliance with Group policy.

Key Responsibilities

💱 Forex Management

Execute and record forward cover purchases and settlements.
Ensure compliance with Group forex policy.
Prepare monthly and ad-hoc forward cover reports.
Perform quarterly hedge accounting (including tax calculations).
Maintain accurate exchange rates across systems.

📊 Forecasting & Budgeting

Forecast forex impact on Income Statement and CFC balances.
Budget currency differences for annual planning cycles.

⚠ Risk Management

Evaluate forex products and structures for effectiveness.
Identify process improvements and system enhancements.
Engage Supply Chain to optimise Rand invoicing opportunities.

🔎 Reconciliations & Reporting

Perform monthly forex account reconciliations.
Clear reconciling items timeously.
Support month-end, year-end, and external audit processes.
Conduct technical research and monitor economic trends affecting forex strategy.

🤝 Stakeholder Management

Engage internal departments and external service providers.
Build strong relationships with banks and financial institutions.
Interpret business needs and translate them into financial impact insights.

Qualifications

🎓 Education

Essential:

B.Comm or equivalent financial qualification

Preferred:

B.Comm (Hons)
CIMA certification
Articles completed or in progress

💼 Experience

Essential:

Minimum 3 years’ relevant experience at Accountant level

Preferred:

Retail industry experience
Forex management exposure

🧠 Skills

Advanced Excel proficiency
Strong understanding of foreign currency accounting
Knowledge of budgeting, forecasting, costing & profitability analysis
Strong analytical and numerical skills
Excellent time management and organisational ability
Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills
