Job Overview

TMF Group is currently hiring an Accountant to join its Johannesburg team. This opportunity is ideal for finance professionals with experience in bookkeeping, debtors, creditors, VAT returns, reconciliations, and statutory reporting.

Key Responsibilities

Strategy

  • Understand revenue, productivity, and chargeability targets
  • Maintain strong client relationships through quality service delivery

Operations

  • Deliver client accounting deliverables within set deadlines
  • Maintain accurate financial records and databases
  • Follow company controls, policies, and processes
  • Escalate operational issues to senior finance management
  • Assist with system updates and process improvements
  • Support onboarding of new clients
  • Handle correspondence from tax authorities, lawyers, and partners

Client Service

  • Attend client meetings when required
  • Prepare and submit financial returns and reports
  • Ensure timely receipt of client documentation
  • Support client service delivery and issue resolution

Financial & Commercial Management

  • Maintain accurate timesheets and workload reporting
  • Assist with client billing and debtor management
  • Identify additional service opportunities with clients

Technical Duties

  • Maintain bookkeeping systems and financial software
  • Prepare VAT returns
  • Manage cashbooks and banking records
  • Perform debtor and creditor reconciliations
  • Assist with management reports
  • Support statutory reporting and AFS preparation
  • Assist with tax return population

Qualifications

Education

  • BCom Accounting or relevant financial qualification
  • Candidates studying toward a professional finance qualification are encouraged to apply

Experience

  • Minimum 1+ year experience in full-function bookkeeping
  • Experience in debtors and creditors management
  • Experience with reconciliations and cashbook maintenance
  • Exposure to VAT and statutory reporting

Skills

  • Strong bookkeeping and accounting skills
  • Knowledge of general ledger structures
  • Understanding of age analysis of accounts
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • Experience with accounting software
  • Pastel accounting knowledge is advantageous
  • Excellent written and verbal English communication
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Deadline-driven and organized
