Role Overview 📊

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Accounts Payable Manager to lead and oversee our Cape Town-based accounts payable team. This position offers a unique opportunity to work within an international environment while managing critical financial operations for the group.

As the Accounts Payable Manager, you will manage the accounts payable process across the entire Stonehage Fleming Group. You’ll supervise a team of Accounts Payable Assistants/Officers, ensuring compliance with internal controls, optimizing workflows, and maintaining high standards of accuracy and efficiency.


Key Responsibilities

  • Team Leadership: Manage and lead the accounts payable team, ensuring the efficient and timely processing of invoices, payments, and reconciliations.
  • Purchase Ledger Oversight: Supervise the upkeep of purchase ledgers for the operating entities, ensuring correct and timely posting of invoices, staff expenses, and credit card forms.
  • Policy & Compliance: Ensure adherence to Stonehage Fleming’s expenditure policy, financial controls, and local regulatory requirements.
  • Vendor Management: Develop and manage a global supplier list, identifying procurement efficiencies to optimize costs.
  • Reconciliation & Reporting: Oversee monthly reconciliations of purchase ledgers to the nominal ledger and preparation of monthly expense accruals.
  • Cash Flow Management: Monitor weekly accounts payable cash forecasts, ensuring sufficient liquidity for operational needs.
  • Systems Integration: Lead projects related to the integration of accounts payable systems (e.g., SAP Concur) and support the integration of M&A entities.
  • VAT & Audits: Assist with the preparation of quarterly VAT returns and support annual internal and external audits.
  • Training & Development: Mentor junior team members, promoting a culture of growth, teamwork, and excellence.
  • Stakeholder Communication: Maintain effective communication with internal departments, vendors, and external stakeholders from diverse cultures and backgrounds.

Qualifications & Experience 📋

The ideal candidate will possess the following:

  • Significant experience in managing purchase ledgers and accounts payable processes.
  • Part or full accounting/bookkeeping qualification (preferred).
  • Previous leadership experience in an accounts payable team is essential.
  • Experience with SAP Concur or Microsoft BC Navone ERP systems is preferred.
  • Familiarity with integrated Procurement to Payment systems.
  • Strong understanding of VAT matters and local regulatory compliance.
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel and other MS Office programs.
  • Fluency in French, German, or Hebrew would be a plus.
  • Proven ability to work in a fast-paced international environment, maintaining high standards of accuracy and efficiency.
