Job Overview
Takealot is seeking a highly skilled Android Software Engineer to join its Fulfilment Mobile software engineering team. The successful candidate will work on building and improving mobile applications that support large-scale logistics and fulfilment operations.
The role involves designing and developing Android features, resolving bugs, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver high-performance mobile applications used by millions of customers and operational teams.

Key Responsibilities

Design, develop, and enhance new Android application features

Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve application bugs and crashes

Participate in brainstorming sessions and contribute innovative ideas

Collaborate with team members on software design and development

Conduct code reviews and contribute to development estimations

Maintain high-quality code and follow software engineering best practices

Contribute to improving mobile performance, usability, and reliability
Qualifications
Education
-
Bachelor’s Degree or Advanced Diploma in Computer Science or Engineering
Alternative qualification:

Candidates without a degree must have at least 6 years of relevant software development experience
Experience
-
Minimum 3 years of professional experience in native Android development

Experience using Android Studio for application development
Skills
Technical skills include:

Strong understanding of Android application and activity lifecycles

Knowledge of Android asynchronous processing techniques

Understanding of Android UX design patterns

Experience with RESTful APIs and networking libraries (e.g., Retrofit)

Familiarity with unit testing frameworks (MockK, Robolectric)

Experience using Git, Jira, and collaboration tools
Advantageous skills:

Experience with Jetpack Compose for declarative UI development

Knowledge of Firebase tools (Analytics, Crashlytics, Firestore, Remote Config)
