Position Title: Researcher – Medicinal Plants of Leguminous, Leafy, and Fruit Vegetables
Contract Type: Three-Year Fixed Term Contract
Key Responsibilities:
- Firstly, initiate, manage, and contribute to research projects on medicinal plants.
- Secondly, compile and contribute to progress reports for internal and external stakeholders.
- Additionally, capture, analyze, and interpret data generated from research activities.
- Moreover, provide leadership, supervision, and mentorship to personnel and/or students involved in the project.
- Furthermore, manage human resources efficiently, including deployment, utilization, objective assessment, and training.
- Moreover, disseminate technology through various channels including peer-reviewed scientific articles, popular publications, and media engagements.
- Additionally, plan and coordinate research activities with single or multi-disciplinary teams.
- Furthermore, actively network with project stakeholders.
- Besides, ensure compliance with human resource policies and procedures as well as occupational health and safety policies and procedures.
- Also, identify and pursue learning opportunities.
- Lastly, contribute to medicinal plant bioprospecting and commercialization programs and initiatives.
Requirements:
- Firstly, possess a PhD in Agronomy, Horticulture, Agricultural Science, or closely related discipline.
- Alternatively, an MSc with five years of work experience and currently pursuing a PhD in a relevant field.
- Additionally, have extensive knowledge of cultivation practices for leguminous, leafy, and fruit vegetables, as well as nursery management.
- Furthermore, have a minimum of two peer-reviewed publications relevant to the position; evidence of popular article publications is advantageous.
- Moreover, demonstrate experience in project management.
- Additionally, register with a relevant scientific registration body, where applicable.
- Also, showcase strong management skills, including research project management.
- Besides, exhibit excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Additionally, proficiency in MS Office suite is required.
- Furthermore, possess the ability to provide diagnostic, technical, and other services at the national level.
- Moreover, have knowledge of intellectual property opportunities.
- Also, be familiar with health and safety regulations and procedures.
- Lastly, have a valid driver’s license and willingness to travel frequently to and within the Northern Cape Province.
- Preference will be given to candidates from the Northern Cape Province.
