🧭 Purpose of the Role

As an Area Manager, you will oversee and guide multiple retail branches within a specific geographic region. Your core mission will be to ensure strategic alignment, operational efficiency, compliance, and revenue growth. You’ll drive business innovation, foster community relationships, and empower teams to deliver exceptional service.


✅ Key Responsibilities

🎯 Strategic Leadership

  • Align the area’s goals with national distribution strategies.

  • Analyse market trends, competitors, risks, and growth opportunities.

  • Drive innovation and change initiatives.

  • Represent the Sanlam brand across provincial business forums and stakeholder events.

📊 Operational Oversight

  • Monitor implementation of retail branch strategy and operational plans.

  • Ensure compliance with regulations and company policies.

  • Improve operational effectiveness and client satisfaction.

👥 People Management & Transformation

  • Lead recruitment and retention strategies.

  • Drive talent development, succession planning, and performance management.

  • Champion diversity and transformation within your area.

  • Coach, train, and mentor branch managers and consultants.

📢 Relationship Management

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders, clients, and partners.

  • Serve as the “face” of the Area during events and community engagement campaigns.

  • Network to identify new market opportunities and expand footprint.


🎓 Qualifications & Requirements

  • Matric / Grade 12 (Compulsory)

  • A Business-related degree or diploma (advantageous)

  • FAIS Accredited in Long-term Insurance & Lending

  • Passed Regulatory Examination (RE1)

  • Compliant with CPD and Fit & Proper requirements

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience, including:

    • At least 3 years in Long-term Insurance or Lending

    • Sales and service experience

    • Retail branch distribution leadership


🧠 Knowledge & Skills

  • Strong sales and distribution acumen

  • In-depth understanding of Financial Services and Long-term Insurance

  • Knowledge of FSCA regulations, FAIS, POPIA, AML, KYC, and the National Credit Act

  • Tech-savvy and action-oriented

  • Skilled in compliance, operations, people management, and transformation
