Job Overview

The Asset Origination Intern will support the Asset Origination team within the Balance Sheet Management environment. This internship provides hands-on exposure to listed credit markets, investment research, financial modelling, and transaction support.

The role is ideal for finance or economics graduates with a strong interest in fixed-income markets, credit risk analysis, and investment decision support within a regulated financial services environment.

Key Responsibilities

Assist senior transactors with transaction research and due diligence for new investment opportunities
Analyse financial and non-financial information related to South Africa’s credit markets
Monitor macroeconomic and microeconomic trends impacting credit and portfolio risk
Design and develop cashflow and stress-testing models to assess deal performance
Support pricing analysis and capital calculations using market data
Communicate research findings to asset origination teams, portfolio managers, and quants
Participate in asset origination and client meetings to share insights and recommendations
Assist with sourcing listed corporate bond opportunities and managing internal processes
Maintain dashboards tracking market movements and pipeline activity
Prepare reports on credit spreads, liquidity, issuance volumes, and portfolio performance

Qualifications

Education

Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Economics, Business, or a related field

Experience

No prior work experience required

Skills

Strong analytical and research capability
Understanding of fixed-income and bond markets
Basic knowledge of credit risk management and financial modelling
Ability to interpret macroeconomic and regulatory information
Report writing and data interpretation skills
Clear verbal communication and stakeholder engagement ability
High attention to detail and structured problem-solving approach
