Job Overview

The Assistant HR Manager (HR People Partner) plays a strategic role in supporting office-based teams by delivering impactful people solutions aligned to business objectives. This role requires an independent, proactive HR professional who can partner with leaders, own HR initiatives end-to-end, and influence positive organisational outcomes.

The successful candidate will act as a trusted advisor, driving talent experience, leadership capability, and employee engagement while ensuring compliance with South African labour legislation.


Key Responsibilities

  • Act as a strategic HR partner to business leaders on all people-related matters

  • Lead and execute HR calendar activities including Talent Management, Performance Management, Learning & Development, DE&I, Rewards, and Engagement

  • Drive key employee experience moments such as onboarding, offboarding, and critical lifecycle transitions

  • Lead and support strategic HR projects that enhance culture and organisational effectiveness

  • Partner with Payroll and HR Services to ensure accurate employee movements and payroll inputs

  • Maintain and update HR policies, processes, and documentation in line with legislation and best practice

  • Serve as the first point of contact for employees and managers, providing timely HR guidance

  • Coach leaders to strengthen people management and leadership effectiveness

  • Deliver HR reporting and analytics including headcount tracking, dashboards, and ad-hoc reporting

  • Stay informed on HR trends and share insights that add value to the business


Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree or National Diploma in Human Resources or a related field

Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in Human Resources

  • At least 2 years’ experience in a strategic HR Business Partner or People Partner role

  • Proven experience managing complex employee relations matters

  • Demonstrated ability to influence senior stakeholders in medium-to-large organisations

Skills

  • Strong business acumen with the ability to align HR strategy to business goals

  • Excellent communication, coaching, and stakeholder management skills

  • High level of initiative, ownership, and autonomy

  • Strong analytical and reporting capability with proficiency in MS Excel and HR systems

  • Solid knowledge of South African labour legislation

  • Ability to lead change, facilitate workshops, and support organisational transformation
