Job Overview:

Hollywoodbets is looking for a dedicated and detail-oriented Assistant Technical Accountant to join our team in Umhlanga, Durban. As an Assistant Technical Accountant, you will be responsible for a range of technical accounting tasks, primarily focusing on betting tax calculations, submissions, and maintenance. You will work closely with the Junior Technical Accountant, Technical Accountant, and Group Technical Manager to support various projects and reports.

Key Responsibilities:

Betting Tax Calculations and Submissions:

• Betting Tax Preparation: Assist in preparing weekly and monthly betting tax calculations and ensure taxes are paid on time.

• Gambling Board Submissions: Ensure all betting tax documentation is submitted accurately and on time to the Gambling Board.

• Report Testing and Review: Test all reports related to betting tax submissions for accuracy, ensuring they comply with Gambling Board requirements.

Data Reconciliation and Reporting:

• Reconciliation: Reconcile betting tax control accounts in Pastel Evolution.

• Investigating Variances: Work closely with the Junior Technical Accountant to investigate any discrepancies in betting tax reports and ensure timely reporting of variances.

• Outstanding Tickets and Bets Reports: Ensure the accuracy of data on outstanding tickets and bets through sample testing.

Collaboration and Support:

• Collaboration with Teams: Provide support for specific projects and data extractions for the Junior Technical Accountant, Technical Accountant, and Group Technical Manager.

• Audit Support: Assist during audits with matters related to betting software and tax reporting.

• Testing New Reports: Review new bet types and branches for compliance with betting tax requirements.

Internal Communication and Issue Resolution:

• Liaising with Gambling Boards: Resolve any queries related to betting tax submissions.

• Error Identification: Identify errors in betting tax calculations and coordinate with the Junior Technical Accountant to ensure corrections are made promptly.

Minimum Requirements:

• Education: A relevant degree or diploma in accounting or a related field is beneficial, but not mandatory.

• Experience: At least 1 year of intermediate Microsoft Excel experience (Vlookups, Pivots).

• Technical Skills: Strong understanding of Horse Racing and Sports Bookmaking.

• Software Skills: Experience with Pastel Evolution or similar accounting software will be an advantage.

• Competencies: Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to solve problems efficiently.

Preferred Skills and Qualifications:

• Studying Towards or Completed Degree/Diploma: A qualification in Accounting or a related field is a bonus.

• Previous Experience: Experience in a similar role, especially within the gambling or betting industry, is a plus.
