About the Role

The Associate Principal, Credit Analyst will play a critical role in supporting Relationship Managers and Coverage teams through comprehensive credit risk assessments and portfolio monitoring of financial institution clients. The role combines deep analytical expertise with commercial insight to ensure credit decisions align with Standard Chartered’s risk appetite, regulatory expectations, and evolving market conditions.

This position operates at the intersection of risk management, client coverage, and strategic portfolio oversight within the Corporate & Investment Banking division.


About Banking & Coverage

The Banking and Coverage team owns and leads the management of client relationships globally. Working across Standard Chartered’s international network, the team partners with product specialists to deliver working capital, trade finance, cash management, market solutions, and corporate finance offerings to clients across diverse markets and asset classes.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead end-to-end credit reviews and ongoing risk assessments for financial institution clients

  • Deliver clear, concise, and timely credit portfolio analysis using quantitative and qualitative insights

  • Prepare detailed financial spreads and recommend internal credit ratings in line with approved scorecards

  • Monitor portfolios for early warning indicators and credit-relevant events

  • Partner with Relationship Managers, Coverage teams, and Risk functions to structure credit originations, mitigants, and portfolio strategies

  • Conduct client fraud risk assessments in line with Standard Chartered standards, identifying residual risks and appropriate mitigations

  • Provide credit intelligence to support business development opportunities aligned with risk appetite

  • Analyse sector, market, and macroeconomic factors impacting client performance and risk exposure

  • Perform in-depth liquidity, cash flow, ratio, and stress testing analysis to assess balance sheet resilience

  • Evaluate reputational, sustainability, and climate-related risks as part of holistic credit assessments

  • Ensure full regulatory compliance, documentation accuracy, and high-quality risk reporting


Skills and Experience

  • Strong understanding of the credit risk lifecycle within financial institutions

  • Proven experience in portfolio monitoring, risk identification, and mitigation techniques

  • Advanced financial modelling, forecasting, and quantitative analysis capabilities

  • Experience conducting comprehensive client due diligence, including behavioural and strategic considerations

  • Broad product knowledge across Transaction Banking, Markets, and Corporate Finance

  • Familiarity with banking regulations and compliance requirements affecting credit decisions

  • Strong data analysis and visualisation skills to communicate complex credit insights effectively

  • Ability to perform under pressure in a fast-paced, high-accountability environment

  • Demonstrated strengths in strategic thinking, collaboration, customer focus, and sound judgment
