Position Overview:

North-West University (Mahikeng Campus) is seeking to appoint an experienced academic professional to the position of Associate Professor/Senior Lecturer in the Faculty of Health Sciences, specifically within the School of Psychosocial Health. This role is focused on contributing to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, practice supervision of students, and research supervision of postgraduate students in the subject group of Social Work.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Teaching and Learning: Deliver undergraduate and postgraduate courses, including supervision of higher degree students.
  • Research and Innovation: Engage in research activities, publish findings, and contribute to innovation in the field.
  • Social Responsiveness: Involve in industry activities and contribute to social initiatives.
  • Academic Leadership: Participate in academic management, administration, and leadership within the faculty.

Minimum Requirements:

For Associate Professor:

  • Education: PhD (NQF level 10) in Social Work.
  • Registration: Registered as a Social Worker with the SACSSP.
  • Experience: At least 3 years of experience in teaching, learning, and research, including a stable publication record and postgraduate supervision.
  • Practice Experience: A minimum of 3 years in direct Social Work practice and/or supervisory/managerial roles.

For Senior Lecturer:

  • Education: PhD (NQF level 10) in Social Work.
  • Registration: Registered as a Social Worker with the SACSSP.
  • Experience: At least 2 years of experience in teaching and learning, with 2 publications and postgraduate supervision.
  • Practice Experience: A minimum of 2 years in direct Social Work practice and/or supervisory/managerial roles.

Key Competencies:

  • Functional/Technical Competencies:
    • Evidence-based approach in social work.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
    • Proficiency in using e-media for teaching and communication.
    • Computer literacy (Microsoft Office, email, PowerPoint, data analysis software).
  • Behavioural Competencies:
    • Ability to work both independently and in a team.
    • Good time management and ability to work under pressure.
    • Demonstrated language proficiency to function in multilingual environments.

Remuneration:

  • The annual total remuneration package will be aligned with the advertised level of appointment and NWU policy guidelines.
