Job Overview

The Automation Project Manager is responsible for leading automation and mechanisation projects across Distribution Centres (DCs) within the Takealot and TFS network.

This role oversees the evaluation, planning, design, and full implementation of automated infrastructure improvements — from concept to operational handover. It also includes continuous process optimisation, supplier management, and CAPEX cost control to maximise efficiency and ROI.

Key Responsibilities

⚙️ Automation & Infrastructure Design

Design and implement mechanisation infrastructure to support growth and optimise processes.
Evaluate new technologies and automation systems.
Improve existing DC processes for maximum efficiency.

📊 Project Management & Execution

Manage projects from planning to completion, including operational handover.
Draft and manage Request for Proposal (RFP) documents.
Control project costs and manage CAPEX budgets.
Build ROI-based viability studies for new initiatives.

🤝 Supplier & Stakeholder Engagement

Manage supplier relationships according to contractual terms.
Engage operational teams and key stakeholders.
Ensure alignment with the Head: Strategy & Infrastructure.

🔌 Technical Oversight

Implement PLC systems and automation solutions.
Work with industrial communication protocols and networking.
Apply SQL database querying and process mapping techniques.

Qualifications

🎓 Education

Bachelor’s Degree / BTech in Engineering (Mechatronic, Electrical, or Mechanical).

💼 Experience

3–5 years automation experience.
Experience in large-scale Distribution Centres, warehousing, or production environments.
Proven experience managing complex automation projects.

🧠 Skills & Knowledge

Strong technical knowledge (electrical, mechanical, systems).
PLC implementation and programming experience.
Industrial communication protocols & networking knowledge.
SQL database management and querying.
Process mapping expertise.
Project cost control and CAPEX budget planning.
Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
Excellent project planning and document control abilities.
Ability to work under pressure in fast-paced environments.
