Conservation South Africa (CSA) is offering an exceptional opportunity for unemployed South African youth through its Blue Economy Learnership Programme 2025. Based in Port Nolloth, within the Richtersveld Local Municipality, this 11-month learnership is designed to equip participants with hands-on experience and skills related to marine sustainability, fishing cooperatives, and ocean-based livelihoods.

๐ฑ About the Blue Economy Learnership
As part of Conservation SAโs Oceans Programme, this learnership places successful candidates in local fishing cooperatives, where they will receive structured training, skills development, and on-the-job exposure to sustainable practices in the marine sector.
Learners will benefit from a combination of fieldwork and theoretical learning aimed at promoting biodiversity conservation, improving livelihoods, and enhancing community-based marine resource management.
๐ Key Responsibilities:
As a Blue Economy Learner, your role will include:

Assisting with daily operations at a fishing cooperative

Engaging in wild kelp harvesting and line fish processing

Participating in data collection and basic administration tasks

Attending workshops on fisheries management and marine conservation
-
Learning about cooperative governance, marketing, and financial management

Promoting environmentally responsible practices in marine resource use
โ Minimum Requirements:
To be eligible, applicants must:

Be South African citizens, aged 18โ35 years
-
Reside in Port Nolloth or surrounding areas in the Richtersveld Local Municipality

Have a minimum education level of Grade 10, 11, or Matric (Grade 12)

Be willing to work outdoors in physically demanding environments

Show a strong interest in marine sustainability and community development

A qualification in marine or environmental studies

Previous experience in fishing, marine, or cooperative-based work
