Job Overview

The Brewing Artisan role at SAB Alrode Brewery provides specialist artisan skills and operational knowledge to support the shift team in daily brewing operations. The role involves contributing to operations, maintenance, problem-solving, and process optimisation, while providing mentorship and technical guidance to junior operators and colleagues.


Key Responsibilities

Operational Support

  • Provide specialist support to shift teams during standby and day shifts

  • Assist as a functional expert in mechanical and electrical fault finding

  • Guide and mentor shift teams on correct responses to equipment failure

  • Participate in regional and central plant optimisation trials

Planned Maintenance

  • Execute planned maintenance as per the maintenance schedule

  • Report incomplete or delayed work to the Maintenance Controller

  • Assist team members during planned maintenance activities

  • Complete SAP administration related to maintenance activities

  • Participate in post-maintenance feedback sessions

Routine Maintenance

  • Conduct cleaning, lubrication, inspection, and routine maintenance as scheduled

  • Resolve identified maintenance issues using correct problem-solving techniques

  • Execute condition monitoring activities as allocated

Running Repairs

  • Perform running repairs on plant and equipment when requested

  • Assess problems and determine appropriate course of action

  • Call on specialist support where necessary (internal or external)

  • Ensure major repair requirements are transferred to engineering workshop

  • Complete all related SAP administration

Problem Solving

  • Apply correct problem-solving techniques during routine and unplanned activities

  • Escalate issues to Engineering Controller when required

  • Participate as functional expert in failure and fault analyses (FFA)

Housekeeping and Safety

  • Operate safely and identify unsafe work practices

  • Follow work instructions and SAB policies/procedures

  • Apply 5S principles and maintain housekeeping standards


Qualifications

Education

  • Matric (Grade 12)

  • N3 Certificate

Experience & Certifications

  • Recognised Trade Test as Millwright, Fitter, or Electrician

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills

  • Conceptual and planning skills

  • Mental alertness and ability to respond to operational issues

  • Subject matter expertise in mechanical/electrical systems
