Role Overview
The Chef – Education is responsible for preparing high-quality meals, ensuring strict adherence to recipes, maintaining kitchen hygiene, and supporting kitchen staff through training and operational guidance. The role is integral to ensuring client satisfaction, delivering consistent meal quality, and maintaining efficient kitchen operations within an educational environment.
Key Responsibilities

Maintain optimal stock levels and storage conditions.

Prepare fresh mise-en-place daily and ensure readiness for service.

Follow all recipes accurately and produce dishes in correct quantities.

Ensure dishes are properly garnished, portioned, and presented according to standards.

Maintain a clean, safe, and organised workstation at all times.
-
Provide guidance and training to junior cooks and trainees.
-
Communicate anticipated stock shortages to the Sous Chef or Head Chef.

Maintain professional conduct in the kitchen and enforce discipline and fairness.

Deputise for the Sous Chef when required and oversee kitchen operations.

Attend relevant training, workshops, and upskilling sessions.

Show commitment to personal development and future leadership growth.
Skills and Competencies

Strong communication abilities with managers and kitchen/dining personnel.

Ability to lift up to 20 kg and carry out physically demanding tasks.

Ability to work long hours standing (up to 9 hours).

Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.

Reliable, disciplined, and able to work under pressure.
Qualifications and Experience
-
Minimum 2 years’ experience in kitchen preparation and cooking.

Relevant tertiary culinary qualification or Associate Culinary Degree.

Recognised in-service culinary training.

At least 6 months’ experience in a similar role.
