About the Role
Lesedi is looking for a highly skilled Civil/Structural Site Engineer to provide expert technical support on-site, ensuring construction aligns with design specifications and quality standards. This role is predominantly technical (90%) with some supervisory responsibilities (10%). You will be working on a bulk materials handling and large-scale pressurized water reticulation project, including pump stations, water pipelines, and distribution piping networks.
Key Responsibilities
🔍 Technical Support & Design Validation
✔ Assess and evaluate design impact during construction.
✔ Provide technical advice to maintain design integrity.
✔ Conduct site inspections to ensure compliance with design standards.
✔ Report and document non-conforming work to the Construction Manager.
✔ Attend client and contractor meetings for technical discussions.
✔ Work closely with Mechanical, Electrical, and C&I disciplines.
✔ Manage construction-phase design changes through a formal Change Management Process.
🚀 Project Implementation
✔ Ensure design drawings are ready for construction and commissioning.
✔ Communicate design changes to the Project Engineer.
✔ Apply contract requirements for effective decision-making.
✔ Monitor safety hazards related to design discrepancies.
✔ Support testing, commissioning, and as-built documentation.
✔ Conduct Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs) at supplier premises as required.
📚 Technical Development & Risk Management
✔ Review and validate feasibility of design baselines.
✔ Develop or review technical specifications and drawings.
✔ Prepare variation orders and cost estimates.
✔ Identify technical risks and optimize project execution.
✔ Evaluate supplier proposals and provide technical inputs.
📌 Process Compliance & Leadership
✔ Adhere to engineering best practices and project management principles.
✔ Coordinate with Procurement, Finance, and SHEQ teams.
✔ Mentor junior engineers and Engineering-in-Training (EIT) staff.
✔ Uphold company values and drive a culture of excellence.
Qualifications & Experience
🎓 Education:
✔ Bachelor’s Degree in Civil/Structural Engineering from an accredited institution.
✔ ECSA registration (or equivalent international engineering body) preferred.
💼 Experience:
✔ Minimum 3 years of design experience in heavy/power industries.
✔ At least 1 year experience in the Energy, Mining, or Materials Handling sectors.
✔ Minimum 6 months of on-site construction experience (required).
Skills & Competencies
💡 Knowledge:
✔ Strong technical expertise in Civil/Structural Engineering.
✔ Familiarity with SANS, BS, EN, and other industry standards.
✔ Understanding of NEC ECC contracts.
✔ Knowledge of project lifecycles in EPC/Turnkey projects.
🛠 Skills:
✔ Proficiency in MS Office & engineering software.
✔ Experience with Project Management Software (Primavera/MS Project).
✔ Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
✔ Excellent written and verbal communication.
✔ Ability to manage workloads effectively and meet deadlines.
