About the Role
Lesedi is looking for a highly skilled Civil/Structural Site Engineer to provide expert technical support on-site, ensuring construction aligns with design specifications and quality standards. This role is predominantly technical (90%) with some supervisory responsibilities (10%). You will be working on a bulk materials handling and large-scale pressurized water reticulation project, including pump stations, water pipelines, and distribution piping networks.
Key Responsibilities
π Technical Support & Design Validation
β Assess and evaluate design impact during construction.
β Provide technical advice to maintain design integrity.
β Conduct site inspections to ensure compliance with design standards.
β Report and document non-conforming work to the Construction Manager.
β Attend client and contractor meetings for technical discussions.
β Work closely with Mechanical, Electrical, and C&I disciplines.
β Manage construction-phase design changes through a formal Change Management Process.
π Project Implementation
β Ensure design drawings are ready for construction and commissioning.
β Communicate design changes to the Project Engineer.
β Apply contract requirements for effective decision-making.
β Monitor safety hazards related to design discrepancies.
β Support testing, commissioning, and as-built documentation.
β Conduct Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs) at supplier premises as required.
π Technical Development & Risk Management
β Review and validate feasibility of design baselines.
β Develop or review technical specifications and drawings.
β Prepare variation orders and cost estimates.
β Identify technical risks and optimize project execution.
β Evaluate supplier proposals and provide technical inputs.
π Process Compliance & Leadership
β Adhere to engineering best practices and project management principles.
β Coordinate with Procurement, Finance, and SHEQ teams.
β Mentor junior engineers and Engineering-in-Training (EIT) staff.
β Uphold company values and drive a culture of excellence.
Qualifications & Experience
π Education:
β Bachelorβs Degree in Civil/Structural Engineering from an accredited institution.
β ECSA registration (or equivalent international engineering body) preferred.
πΌ Experience:
β Minimum 3 years of design experience in heavy/power industries.
β At least 1 year experience in the Energy, Mining, or Materials Handling sectors.
β Minimum 6 months of on-site construction experience (required).
Skills & Competencies
π‘ Knowledge:
β Strong technical expertise in Civil/Structural Engineering.
β Familiarity with SANS, BS, EN, and other industry standards.
β Understanding of NEC ECC contracts.
β Knowledge of project lifecycles in EPC/Turnkey projects.
π Skills:
β Proficiency in MS Office & engineering software.
β Experience with Project Management Software (Primavera/MS Project).
β Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
β Excellent written and verbal communication.
β Ability to manage workloads effectively and meet deadlines.
