JOB OVERVIEW

The Clinical Facilitator plans and facilitates training interventions to ensure the competency of nursing staff. This role may be allocated to a specialist unit (e.g., ICU) or work across general nursing units, promoting continuous professional development and adherence to nursing procedures and policies.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Develop the competence of all nursing staff through training and mentorship.

• Ensure correct application of nursing procedures and hospital policies.

• Identify training needs to guide development of clinical interventions.

• Promote a culture of continuous professional development across nursing teams.

• Support adherence to infection prevention and control protocols.

• Contribute to clinical risk management and quality assurance initiatives.

QUALIFICATIONS

Essential Education

• Professional Nurse qualification

• Postgraduate Diploma in Nursing Education OR

• 3 years’ experience as a mentor

• For specialist units: Postgraduate Diploma in Nursing (e.g., Perioperative Nursing) and certificate of competence in Generic Assessment (Assessor course)

EXPERIENCE

Essential Minimum Experience

• 3 years of Professional Nurse experience in a hospital

• 1 year of mentor experience

SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE

• Facilitation and adult learning techniques

• Assessment and evaluation of nursing competencies

• Knowledge of nursing processes, procedures, and relevant legislation

• Infection prevention and control

• Continuous improvement methodologies

• Clinical risk management

• Computer literacy (MS Office Suite)
