As a Clinical Pathologist, you will provide expert diagnostic services in clinical pathology while supporting veterinarians and laboratory teams with accurate, timely, and insightful evaluations. This position requires strong analytical ability, collaborative problem-solving, and exceptional communication skills, as youโ€™ll be partnering closely with clients and colleagues to deliver high-quality pathology insights.


๐Ÿ”ง Key Responsibilities

๐Ÿ”ฌ Diagnostic Evaluation

  • Perform gross and/or microscopic examinations of clinical pathology specimens.

  • Prepare clear, accurate pathology reports within required turnaround times.

  • Manage caseloads efficiently while maintaining high diagnostic standards.

๐Ÿ“ž Client Support & Consultation

  • Provide telephone and email consultation to veterinarians and clients.

  • Collaborate with fellow pathologists to ensure collegiality and knowledge sharing.

๐Ÿงฌ Laboratory Partnership

  • Guide laboratory staff on proper specimen processing and act as the pathologist on duty when needed.

  • Participate in and maintain standards for quality control programs.

๐Ÿ“š Continuous Professional Development

  • Maintain and advance your diagnostic skills through ongoing education.

  • Participate in pathologist meetings and support initiatives to enhance IDEXXโ€™s capabilities and reputation.

  • Contribute to special projects or professional activities approved by management.


๐ŸŽ“ Minimum Requirements

๐Ÿพ Education & Certifications

  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or equivalent.

  • Board Certification preferred:

    • American College of Veterinary Pathologists (ACVP)

    • European College of Veterinary Clinical Pathology (ECVCP)

    • MMedVet(CLD) also considered.

  • Board-eligible candidates are encouraged to apply and will be supported in exam preparation.

๐Ÿ’ผ Skills & Experience

  • Fluent in English (written and spoken).

  • Familiar with current clinical veterinary medicine practices.

  • Ability to use dictation tools and strong typing skills.

  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication.

  • Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize workload.

  • Computer literacy required.

  • Experience in a veterinary diagnostic laboratory is advantageous.

  • Must be based in South Africa.
