Role Summary

The College Afrikaans Teacher will adopt a holistic approach to teaching and learning, supporting the academic progress, personal growth, and overall well-being of students. The role focuses on creating a positive, engaging classroom environment that motivates learners to achieve their full potential while upholding the values and standards of Reddam House Ballito.


Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging and effective Afrikaans lessons aligned with curriculum standards.
  • Create a nurturing learning environment that promotes active participation and high academic standards.
  • Maintain professionalism in punctuality, conduct, lesson preparation, and learner engagement.
  • Continuously evaluate and refine teaching practice through reflection and professional development.
  • Participate in school-wide and personal professional development initiatives.
  • Provide extra Afrikaans lessons on two afternoons per week when required.
  • Develop and maintain high-quality teaching resources and learning materials.
  • Communicate with parents via email and telephone within 24 hours.
  • Set, mark, and moderate examinations and assessments.
  • Write detailed and meaningful student report comments.
  • Attend school events and special occasions as required by the Head of School.
  • Demonstrate loyalty and commitment to the ethos and values of Reddam House Ballito.
  • Undertake any additional reasonable duties as directed by school leadership.

Minimum Requirements & Skills

  • A minimum of 5 years’ teaching experience within a school environment.
  • Proven experience teaching High School Afrikaans.
  • University degree in Afrikaans or a related subject.
  • Certified Teaching Status.

  • Strong subject knowledge and ability to assess learning effectiveness.
  • Excellent lesson preparation, planning, and classroom management skills.
  • Ability to set clear expectations and ambitious learning goals.
  • Adaptable teaching style with openness to feedback.
  • Strong assessment and feedback practices to support learner progress.
  • Demonstrated commitment to student welfare and high educational standards.
  • Appropriate legal right to work in South Africa.
