🎯 Key Role Purpose

The Commercial Analyst supports site financial performance through cost analysis, budgeting, risk evaluation, financial reporting, and operational decision-making. The role collaborates closely with the Specialist Operational Finance and Commercial Managers to ensure accurate insights, compliance, and value-driven improvements.

🛠️ Key Responsibilities

🔒 Safety, Health & Environment

• Promote a safe, controlled work environment for employees and contractors.

• Support compliance with MHSA, environmental standards, and housekeeping principles.

• Participate actively in SLAMs, HPHs, and risk assessments.

• Ensure close-out of safety actions and maintain safety-first behaviour.

📊 Performance, Planning & Budgeting

• Assist Specialist Operational Finance with breaking down financial targets into site-specific deliverables.

• Support the budgeting cycle by gathering and analysing inputs across site disciplines.

• Develop and analyse business cases for SIB (Stay-in-Business) capital projects.

• Provide accurate financial forecasts and monthly cost analyses.

• Highlight “over-cost” areas and deviations from budget through detailed reporting.

⚠️ Risk Management

• Provide cost and capital calculations to support service strategy decisions.

• Deliver reports that communicate potential business and financial risks.

• Support site-level financial audits and due-diligence processes.

📑 Reporting & Financial Control

• Consolidate financial inputs from multiple disciplines for management review.

• Draft structured financial reports and analytical insights.

• Monitor site performance and highlight variances to Specialist Operational Finance.

• Evaluate business initiatives to ensure cost alignment and optimal returns.

• Conduct financial driver analyses to ensure alignment with strategic objectives.

🚀 Commercial Continuous Improvement

• Support rollout of commercial improvement initiatives (dashboards, reporting tools, workflows).

• Provide feedback on financial system improvement opportunities.

• Contribute to better financial visibility, efficiency, and data quality.

📈 Site Performance Improvement

• Supply data insights for performance discussions and optimisation opportunities.

• Prepare sensitivity analyses and business cases for improvement initiatives.

• Quantify financial impact of new measures or process changes.

• Provide data inputs to GSS / Financial CoE.

• Validate outputs received from shared service functions before onward use.

🤝 On-Site Integration

• Ensure seamless flow of financial information between site teams and central finance units.

• Maintain accuracy of inputs and outputs across commercial systems and reporting processes.

🎓 Qualifications & Requirements

Education

• Grade 12

• NQF5 Qualification in Business Accounting, Finance, or Economics

• Valid SA Driver’s Licence

Experience

• 3–5 years in cost accounting, financial analysis, or commercial finance

• Experience in a mining environment advantageous

• Strong understanding of governance, compliance, and financial controls

• Solid knowledge of accounting standards and principles

Technical Skills

• High proficiency in MS Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook)

• Experience using SAP

• Strong numerical, analytical, and reporting skills
