Role Overview

The Commis Chef (Seasonal) supports the kitchen team with food preparation, cooking, presentation, and maintaining hygiene and safety standards. The role includes contributing to A la Carte, buffet, room service, and function catering. You will assist senior chefs, support mise-en-place readiness, and uphold Pullmanโ€™s culinary quality standards.


Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare, cook, and present menu items with creativity and consistency.

  • Maintain strict stock rotation and reduce wastage.

  • Assist with daily food ordering based on business needs.

  • Coordinate with restaurant staff regarding menu changes and availability.

  • Support junior team members and apprentices in food preparation.

  • Prepare and monitor mise-en-place for all sections.

  • Maintain clean, sanitised, and organised working areas.

  • Report equipment issues to the Executive Chef.

  • Participate in daily kitchen briefings and contribute ideas.

  • Ensure compliance with hygiene, safety, and municipal regulations.

  • Complete grooming checks, temperature logs, and documentation.

  • Maintain product rotation and quality in all chillers.

  • Communicate effectively with supervisors and team members.

  • Assist with additional tasks as required.


Qualifications & Experience

  • Matric (Grade 12).

  • Minimum one year of experience in a food production environment.

  • Previous hotel experience is an advantage.

  • Food Hygiene and Safety training essential.

  • Strong communication and guest service skills.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.

  • Availability for flexible shifts including mornings, weekends, and holidays.

  • Positive attitude, teamwork capability, and professional presentation.
