๐Ÿข Department Overview

The Compliance team at Hogan Lovells is responsible for conducting Client Due Diligence (CDD) on both new and existing clients, primarily in accordance with the UK Money Laundering Regulations. The team plays a critical role in identifying beneficial ownership, assessing client risk, and ensuring ongoing regulatory compliance across all jurisdictions in which the firm operates.

The Compliance Assistant role focuses on Ongoing Monitoring of existing clients to ensure continued adherence to the firmโ€™s AML policies and procedures. This role is well suited to candidates with strong research capabilities, attention to detail, and the ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, global professional services environment.


๐Ÿ“ Key Responsibilities

๐Ÿ” Client Research and Due Diligence

  • Conduct detailed research using public and subscription-based sources

  • Review company registries, stock exchange data, regulatory authority websites, and external databases

  • Liaise with legal teams, research units, and internal departments to obtain outstanding CDD information

  • Communicate directly with clients regarding CDD requirements when required

  • Support CDD processes for new client onboarding

  • Perform client risk rating reviews, including analysis of adverse media and investigations

  • Screen clients, directors, and shareholders for PEPs, sanctions, criminal activity, and adverse press

  • Escalate high-risk findings to senior Compliance Officers or the General Counselโ€™s Office


๐Ÿ“Š Reports and Database Administration

  • Review and update CDD records for existing clients in line with UK Money Laundering Regulations

  • Ensure enhanced due diligence is conducted where higher risk is identified

  • Document CDD findings clearly and accurately

  • Update client information on the 3E client database where changes are identified

  • Maintain and update internal PEP databases

  • Manage adverse screening monitoring (ASM) alerts and take appropriate escalation action


๐Ÿง  Advisory and Compliance Projects

  • Provide AML and compliance guidance to partners, fee earners, and support staff

  • Assist with ongoing monitoring and compliance-related projects

  • Support senior Compliance Officers with administrative and regulatory initiatives


๐ŸŽ“ Minimum Requirements

๐Ÿ“š Education

  • Grade 12 or equivalent (NQF Level 4) โ€“ Required

  • BCom, LLB, or equivalent qualification (NQF Level 6 or 7), including final-year students


๐Ÿ’ผ Experience

  • Minimum of 1 year general work experience (including part-time roles)

  • At least 1 year experience in Compliance or AML-related work
