Chancen International is seeking a Compliance Associate to join our Johannesburg team. This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career legal or compliance professional with a passion for regulatory affairs, credit legislation, and ethical lending to build a career in the dynamic education financing sector.

As a Compliance Associate, you will play a critical role in ensuring that our financing operations meet legal, ethical, and industry standards — all while contributing to the greater good.


What You’ll Do

In this role, you’ll support the regulatory, legal, and governance functions of Chancen South Africa and our Future of Work Fund. Your responsibilities will include:

Regulatory Compliance

  • Monitor compliance with the National Credit Act, SACRRA, POPIA, and other relevant regulations.

  • Review Income Share Agreements (ISAs) to ensure they align with legal frameworks.

  • Verify and maintain accuracy in data submissions to TransUnion and respond to bureau queries.

  • Promote a culture of compliance through awareness and internal training.

  • Track legal developments and assist with policy alignment and regulatory reporting.

Debt Collection & Legal Administration

  • Collaborate with internal and external debt recovery agents to ensure compliance.

  • Draft and track legal documents (e.g., Section 129 letters).

  • Liaise with external legal counsel for opinions, case support, and dispute resolution.

  • Maintain comprehensive legal and communication logs.

Internal Monitoring & Reporting

  • Maintain compliance registers and assist with internal audits.

  • Track deadlines for regulatory reporting (e.g., to NCR).

  • Report key compliance trends and risks to senior management.

Company Secretarial Support

  • Manage CIPC filings, board resolutions, and governance documentation.

  • Assist with contract management and ensure legal consistency across MOUs, NDAs, and funding agreements.

Policy Development & Training

  • Help develop and update policies for credit, debt collection, data privacy, and compliance.

  • Facilitate internal training to build staff awareness around compliance expectations.


What You Need to Succeed

Qualifications

  • Diploma or Degree in Law, Paralegal Studies, or a related field.

  • 1–2 years of experience in legal, compliance, credit, or debt collections.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Solid understanding of:

    • National Credit Act (NCA)

    • Consumer Protection Act (CPA)

    • Companies Act

    • FICA and debt recovery regulations

    • SACRRA & TransUnion data processes

  • Exposure to company secretarial practices is advantageous.

  • Excellent communication, documentation, and administrative skills.

  • Strong attention to detail and a proactive, solution-oriented mindset.
