Job Overview

The Corporate Legal Specialist will provide expert legal support across MiWay’s corporate, regulatory, and commercial operations. The role is central to ensuring legal compliance, mitigating risk, and enabling the business to achieve its strategic objectives through practical, business-focused legal advice.

This position is suited to a seasoned legal professional with strong insurance industry experience, who can confidently balance legal risk with commercial realities while operating in a fast-paced, regulated environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Draft, review, and negotiate complex commercial agreements and legal documentation
• Provide legal opinions and pragmatic advice across the business, including proactive risk management guidance
• Review and approve marketing materials, campaigns, and digital workflows from a legal and regulatory perspective
• Support procurement teams by ensuring contracts align with legal and risk frameworks
• Advise on claims, underwriting matters, and product development from a legal standpoint
• Draft, review, and maintain policy wording in line with regulatory and business changes
• Conduct legal due diligence on transactions and strategic initiatives
• Monitor legislative and regulatory developments impacting the insurance sector and advise on mitigation strategies
• Manage and maintain the intellectual property portfolio
• Maintain accurate legal records and documentation repositories
• Liaise with external legal counsel on non-subrogated litigation matters
• Resolve legal issues efficiently to support uninterrupted business operations
• Build strong working relationships with internal stakeholders and external partners

Qualifications

Education

• Bachelor of Laws (LLB) – essential
• Admitted Attorney – essential

Experience

• Minimum of 5 years’ post-admission experience in corporate and commercial law
• Proven experience within the insurance industry
• Experience dealing with marketing and advertising law (preferred)
• Exposure to regulatory agreements and compliance frameworks (preferred)

• Strong analytical thinking and attention to detail
• Ability to balance legal risk with commercial objectives
