π§Ύ JOB OVERVIEW
The Donor Care Officer is responsible for collecting safe, quality blood and blood products in line with SANBS standards and targets. The role supports fixed and mobile blood drives, ensuring excellent donor care, compliance, and operational efficiency.
π― KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS
KPA 1: Financial
-
Manage cost per unit for whole blood and specialised collections
-
Prepare, pack, and load consumables per blood drive targets
-
Maintain and validate equipment; ensure timely repairs
-
Report consumable usage variances and stock discrepancies
KPA 2: Customer & Stakeholder
-
Manage stakeholder relations at blood drives and donor centres
-
Welcome, guide, and assist donors through registration and assessment
-
Support donors with forms and address queries
-
Manage complaints and coach teams on customer service
KPA 3: Internal Processes
-
Collect whole blood/apheresis units to meet targets
-
Set up and pack down blood drives efficiently
-
Complete donor identification, registration, assessments, and documentation
-
Conduct basic physical checks and confidential risk assessments
-
Perform phlebotomy and provide donor education and care
-
Handle post-donation documentation and donor advice
-
Initiate first aid/CPR in emergencies as required
KPA 4: Learning & Growth

Perform Clinic Supervisor duties when required

Participate in staff meetings and operational communications
-
Support training needs analysis, CPDs, and competency management
KPA 5: Governance

Maintain staff and equipment files
-
Enforce SHEQ and operational policies

Manage medical waste per SOP

Ensure a safe working environment
π MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education
-
Diploma or Degree in General Nursing Sciences
-
Code B or EB manual driverβs licence
Experience
-
Minimum 2 yearsβ Registered Professional Nursing experience
Knowledge & Skills
-
SANBS policies and procedures
-
Standards of Practice for Blood Transfusion in South Africa
-
Understanding of relevant healthcare legislation
