As part of our ongoing mission, we’re looking for a dedicated Employee Relations Manager to join the Global Corporate Employee Relations (GCER) team in Cape Town. This role will primarily support AWS and Amazon Corporate Business Lines, handling a broad spectrum of employee relations issues, and proactively improving employee engagement across diverse teams and cultures.


What You’ll Do:

As an Employee Relations Manager at Amazon, your primary responsibility is to support and develop a positive employee relations environment that ensures every employee’s treatment aligns with Amazon’s core values. You will:

🔹 Proactively Address Employee Concerns

  • Work with employees at all levels to identify and resolve concerns through listening sessions, focus groups, conflict resolution, and one-on-one coaching.
  • Analyze and develop people programs, policies, and practices to enhance employee relations and engagement.

🔹 Conduct Workplace Investigations

  • Lead sensitive investigations into employee relations issues, ensuring all matters are handled fairly and consistently with company policy.

🔹 Partner with HR and Business Leaders

  • Collaborate with HR teams and business leaders to implement best practices in employee relations and create programs that support Amazon’s core values and objectives.
  • Develop actionable insights from case data to help shape future policies and improve employee experience.

🔹 Oversee Conflict Resolution and Sensitive Situations

  • Provide guidance on complex employee relations situations that require high-level discretion and timely resolution.
  • Offer expert advice on labor laws, conflict resolution, and employee coaching to manage challenging situations.

What We’re Looking For:

We are seeking a passionate and experienced Employee Relations Manager with a strong background in human resources, employee relations, and labor law. The ideal candidate will possess:

🔑 Essential Qualifications:

  • Significant experience in employee relations, workplace investigations, and/or labor/employment law.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, or a related field (advanced degrees or law degrees are a plus).

💼 Experience with Data Analysis:

  • Ability to work with both quantitative and qualitative data to identify root causes, spot trends, and recommend creative solutions.
  • Strong analytical skills, with experience delivering executive-level reports.

🤝 Excellent Communication Skills:

  • Strong interpersonal and persuasion skills, capable of influencing senior leadership and managing relationships with employees at all levels.
  • Experience in facilitating employee listening sessions and delivering training programs.

🌍 Global Perspective:

  • Experience working across multiple countries and navigating complex, international organizational structures.
  • Knowledge of employment and labor laws throughout Africa is highly beneficial.

Preferred Qualifications:

✔️ Problem-Solving Skills:

  • Ability to work autonomously, managing competing priorities in a fast-paced and ambiguous environment.
  • Proven track record of resolving high-impact employee relations issues while maintaining a positive employee experience.

✔️ Experience in a Tech Environment:

  • Experience working in a high-tech, customer-focused environment, preferably with a large multinational company.
  • Familiarity with Amazon’s culture and leadership principles is a plus.
