Job Overview
The Employee Relations Officer will play a key role in promoting fair, consistent, and legally compliant employee relations practices across the organisation. Reporting to the ER Manager, this role focuses on resolving workplace issues, guiding line management, managing disputes, and representing the business at dispute resolution forums to minimise risk and support a positive employee experience.
Key Responsibilities

Resolve employee relations matters, workplace disputes, and behavioural issues through structured and compliant processes

Represent the organisation at the CCMA and other dispute resolution forums

Interpret and apply labour legislation and internal policies to reduce legal risk

Conduct objective, fair, and legally sound workplace investigations

Manage ER case documentation, timelines, and records accurately

Analyse ER trends to identify risks and recommend proactive interventions
-
Advise and guide line managers on disciplinary, incapacity, and performance processes
-
Collaborate with HR teams, management, employees, unions, and external stakeholders

Support a positive employee experience by reinforcing organisational values and trust
Qualifications
Education
-
3-year Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources, Industrial Psychology, Labour Relations, or a related field
Experience
-
Minimum 3 years’ experience in an ER or IR specialist role within retail, manufacturing, or logistics
-
Minimum 3 years’ experience in a HR Generalist role with strong IR exposure
-
Proven experience handling CCMA cases and dispute resolution matters
Skills
-
Strong interpretation and application of South African labour legislation
-
Conflict resolution, grievance handling, and mediation skills

Investigation and case management expertise

Excellent written and verbal communication
-
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organisational abilities

Ability to manage multiple cases under pressure
