Introduction

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver professional nursing care in collaboration with a multidisciplinary ICU team

• Apply clinical knowledge and skills to assess patient conditions and support recovery

• Maintain infection prevention and control standards to ensure patient safety

• Identify, manage, and report clinical risks in a time-sensitive environment

• Ensure accurate and detailed documentation of all nursing interventions and assessments

• Contribute to a positive patient experience through empathy and effective communication

• Assist in creating a learning-focused work culture that promotes ongoing staff competence

• Ensure appropriate usage and accurate billing of ICU stock and equipment

Education & Qualifications

Required Education

• Essential: Enrolled Nurse Certificate (SANC registered)

• Desired: CPD (Continuous Professional Development) courses in critical care or ICU specialisation

Experience

• Essential: None (ideal for recently qualified enrolled nurses)

• Desired: At least 1 year of post-qualification experience, ideally in a high-care or ICU unit

Skills & Competencies

• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification

• Understanding of pharmacology principles relevant to ICU care

• Knowledge of infection control standards and implementation

• Strong patient observation and assessment skills

• Familiarity with nursing processes and scientific nursing principles

• Ability to develop and implement nursing care plans

• Skilled in risk identification and escalation

• Proficient in Microsoft Office and electronic health record systems

• Sound knowledge of current nursing legislation and regulations
